I have been going over the shows that I want to attend this year. After last year, if the BVX does not have 2 judges to judge the breed show, I will not be attending. With 2 judges, if there are only 2 people in a class, you'll at least get 1/2 point. Honestly, it's not worth the drive or riding in the bad ground there to compete if there's only one judge. I was very disappointed in the BVX last year and not at all impressed with the ground of the outdoor or the small stalls(are there bigger ones you can request?). The shavings are awesome, don't get me wrong, there are lots about it that I do like but I feel that there is need for improvement on a few things.

Perhaps you could contact the people on the Show Committee regarding these issues? They may be able to address these concerns as it is so early in the year - however, they usually have to have things set by early spring in order to get the book done in time, so it would be better to bring the issues to them now. :-)

I've been giving this some more thought, as I would like to show my foal in the halter classes this year. I have to agree - the primary reason for showing in a breed class is to possibly earn breed show points. If there was no possibility of that, I am not sure the extra cost would be worth it? I hope you can get some answers from the great volunteers at BV Ex! :-)

This is the reply that I got from whom I assume is a volunteer on a FB site I posted on: It's just not worth paying the cost of another breed judge when there isn't the entires. I don't think having a double judge show will draw more competition
As a person paying as much as you do to show, camping fees(i'll be honest, I hotel it), admittance fee, stalls, office fees, class fees and the numerous other fees, I feel they could at least dual judge the show. That is my opinion, but as of now, I will not be showing at the BVX.

Well, if you are just assuming, you might want to fact-check with the committee (not just a possible member) before making your final decision But I understand your frustration for sure! Perhaps a well written letter, supported by other breed show advocates, would go further to helping them see the need for the extra judge. But in that case, we must put our money where our mouth is so to speak and go to the show, enter the classes, and support the extra cost. Getting AQHA / APHA / ApHCC judges (in my limited experience) is not a cheap proposal, especially when there is long travel distances involved, so I can see their frustrations from the organizational point of view. Usually show committees are willing to look at extra costs if they can see the offsetting revenues, so maybe those of us with horses affected by this decision can group together now, before the judges issue is set in stone for this year's prize list? Maybe you can make use of the polling feature Caitlin was telling us about, here on the forum, to see what the response is like from the area's horse owners?

Unfortunately the bvx will not have a double judge show, for the breed classes in 2014. However if there is an increase in numbers this is something we can look at for the future. Currently the cost of brining in another judge for the 4 days would be ruff estimate of $4000. We try to keep our entry fees down as much as possible In hopes that will encourage more general entires. I will pass on your suggestions to the committee.

the fall fair has never been a "breed show" it has always been an open show and has always offered halter classes for breeds and also morphed into offering specialty classes for breeds.I have not shown for a good many years but there was a time when the horse show at the fair had over 300 horses entered...times change, lives change, everything costs more etc.If people are pursuing points alone then attend a breed show, there are at least a couple in the area now.The fall fair horse show can't be all things to all people. Many people have worked long and hard for a lot of years to create the grounds and barns we have...I think they are pretty damn good but then I don't show anymore so my opinion is meaningless. No matter what happens down there there will always be someone that is not happy about something, such is life

If you are talking about AQHA classes it is my understanding, that there would have to be at least 3 horses in the class for the 1st place horse to receive 1/2 point under one judge or 1 point if there were 2 judges and for a 2nd place horse to receive a 1/2 point from each judge there would have to be at least 5 horses in the class. I can not speak for other Breeds though.
